A Proton Drive alternative that uses the cloud you already have

Proton Drive is a good end-to-end encrypted cloud. Sino gives you the same kind of protection without moving your files to a new provider: it encrypts them on your device and keeps them in the cloud accounts you already pay for.

Sino may suit you better if

  • You already pay for Google Drive, MEGA, S3 or Azure storage and do not want another subscription.
  • You do not want a single company, including us, to hold your only copy: Sino can keep copies with several providers.
  • You want a decoy vault, an emergency wipe and lost-device wipe on your phone.
  • You want to be able to recover your files without our app, with the open-source Sino Open SDK.

Proton Drive is the better choice if

  • You need to share files with other people, or open them in a web browser.
  • You need it on an iPhone or a Mac today, or want one account for mail, calendar, passwords and files.
  • You want apps whose source code is public and that have been independently audited.

Your files, in accounts you control

With Proton Drive, Proton stores your encrypted files. That is simple, and Proton has a long privacy record, but your files depend on one company's service and pricing.

Sino stores nothing itself. It encrypts each file on your phone or PC, with its own key, then uploads it to the cloud accounts you choose. Your provider sees scrambled names and encrypted data, never your file names or contents. Connect a second provider and Sino keeps a full copy there too, so one closed or locked account does not take your files with it.

Recoverable without us

Sino's cloud format is published, and the open-source Sino Open SDK can rebuild your vault from your 24-word recovery phrase and your cloud copies, without our app or any Sino server. If Sino ever disappeared, your files would not.

Where Proton is ahead

Proton Drive lets you share files and links, open them in a browser, and use it on every major platform, alongside Proton's mail, calendar and password manager. Its apps are open source and have been audited. Sino is on Android and Windows for now (Linux and iOS are planned next), has no web app, shares files only for businesses through the Control Hub, and has not had an independent audit yet.
