How Sino Compares
Sino is not the only way to keep your files private. Here is an honest look at how it differs from the tools people usually compare it with, including where they are the better choice.

Based on each provider's public information as of October 2026. Features and prices change, so check their own sites before deciding. Google Drive and MEGA are cloud services Sino can also use as storage.
Sino is a good fit if
- You want your files encrypted before they reach Google Drive, MEGA or S3, using accounts you already have.
- You want copies with more than one provider, so one locked or lost account does not cost you your files.
- You want protection if you are forced to unlock your phone, or if it is lost or stolen.
- You want to be able to recover your files without our app, with the open-source Sino Open SDK.
Look elsewhere if
- You need to share files with other people, or open them in a web browser.
- You use an iPhone, a Mac or Linux. Sino is for Android and Windows only.
- You need software that is fully open source, or independently audited.
Side by side
Cryptomator
An open-source app that encrypts a folder which your existing cloud app then syncs.
Where it is better: Fully open source, free on desktop, and available on Mac, Linux and iPhone.
Where Sino is different: Keeps copies on several clouds, backs up your phone's folders by itself, and adds a decoy vault, emergency wipe, device revocation and Legacy Handover.
Proton Drive
An end-to-end encrypted cloud from Proton, on Proton's own servers.
Where it is better: Sharing, a web app, and apps on every major platform, from a company with a long privacy record.
Where Sino is different: Works with storage you already pay for, can keep copies with several providers so no single company holds your only copy, and is a one-time purchase.
Google Drive or MEGA on their own
Google Drive does not encrypt personal accounts end to end: Google holds the keys (client-side encryption is limited to some Workspace plans). MEGA encrypts end to end by default.
Where it is better: Sharing, web access and polished apps everywhere, with nothing extra to install.
Where Sino is different: Sino adds its encryption on top of either one, hides your folder structure, and lets you use both at once, so losing one account does not lose your files.
